The urology research team led by Professor Yoon Young-eun at Hanyang University Hospital will present a poster at the 15th International Urolithiasis Symposium (IUS 2026) regarding AI-based urolithiasis reading research conducted jointly with medical imaging AI specialist company AIDOT.
Hosted by the International Urolithiasis Society, this symposium is a premier international academic conference in the field of urolithiasis, scheduled to be held from October 1 to 2 at the Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA.
The title of the accepted research is "Integrating KUB Anatomical Prior Information into CT Foundation Models to Enhance Urinary Stone Detection in Non-Contrast CT," which addresses a methodology to improve urolithiasis detection accuracy in non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) by combining anatomical priors learned from kidney, ureter, and bladder (KUB) X-ray images with CT foundation models.
Professor Yoon Young-eun's team proposed an approach to compensate for these limitations by designing the reading experience accumulated in clinical practice and KUB image-based anatomical information as prior knowledge for the CT model.
Professor Yoon's team led the research design, clinical validity verification, and the establishment of anatomical criteria for imaging data, while Choi Han-sol, Head of AIDOT's Research Institute (CTO), was responsible for model implementation, training, and performance verification based on the company's reading engine.
Professor Yoon Young-eun stated, "Because urolithiasis is a condition with a high recurrence rate and frequent emergency room visits, simultaneously improving reading accuracy and speed holds great clinical significance," adding, "We expect this research to contribute to reducing blind spots in non-contrast CT readings."
AIDOT CTO Choi Han-sol stated, "Having our urolithiasis AI technology—spanning both X-ray and CT—validated on the international academic stage, we will accelerate our entry into global markets, including the U.S. as well as domestic markets, based on the secured patents and clinical research achievements."
