Cerviray AI deployed across 95 hospitals in Bolivia, surpassing 6,880 cumulative screenings


Medical AI company AIDOT (CEO: Jaehun Jeong) announced that its AI-powered cervical cancer screening system, Cerviray AI, has been deployed across 95 healthcare institutions throughout Bolivia, completing more than 6,880 cumulative screenings and establishing itself as a key component of the country's healthcare infrastructure.

This milestone comes three years after the project was first launched in Bolivia through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)'s Creative Technology Solution (CTS) Program in 2023, demonstrating how Korean medical AI technology has become a practical public health solution protecting the lives of women living in the remote Andean highlands.

Cervical cancer is the leading cancer affecting women in Bolivia. Each year, approximately 1,985 new cases are diagnosed, while 1,054 women die from the disease, resulting in a mortality rate of approximately 53%. Although cervical cancer is highly curable when detected early, access to Pap smear specialists and diagnostic equipment has traditionally been concentrated in major cities, leaving women in rural and mountainous regions with limited access to screening services.

AIDOT's Cerviray AI combines a portable digital colposcope with the company's proprietary AI-based diagnostic algorithm, enabling healthcare providers at primary care clinics with limited specialist resources to assess cervical lesion risk immediately after image acquisition.

Trained on more than 30,000 IRB-approved clinical cases based on expert physician interpretations, the AI achieved 98% sensitivity, 91% specificity, and 93% accuracy, earning Class III approval from the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). The system is designed with a local license architecture that operates without server connectivity, allowing reliable AI analysis even in remote areas with limited internet access—a feature that has received strong recognition from Bolivian health authorities.

AIDOT's expansion into Bolivia began in December 2022, following its selection for the KOICA CTS Program.

The company developed a dedicated Spanish-language software platform, obtained regulatory approval from Bolivia's AGEMED (DI-86278/2023), and partnered with local healthcare specialist TRIAR Expertos en Salud S.R.L., supplying more than 100 Cerviray AI systems across the country.

Healthcare professional training also significantly exceeded expectations, achieving over 500% of the original target, with 1,143 direct beneficiaries and an estimated 200,000 indirect beneficiaries.

Perhaps the most remarkable achievement has been the project's sustainability after its official completion in February 2025.

Unlike many conventional Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects that conclude once funding ends, Cerviray AI has continued operating independently within Bolivia's healthcare system, contributing to more than 6,880 cumulative screenings after project completion. Cervical cancer screening continues today through the ongoing collaboration between Bolivian healthcare professionals and AIDOT.

Building on these successful outcomes, in May 2026, TRIAR donated two Cerviray AI systems to the Fundación Boliviana Contra el Cáncer (Bolivian Cancer Foundation), the country's largest private cancer organization, for use at its La Paz Comprehensive Medical Center.

During the donation ceremony, representatives of the Bolivian Cancer Foundation stated:

"The introduction of this advanced AI-powered screening system will modernize our diagnostic unit and significantly strengthen our capacity for the early detection of cervical lesions."

The foundation also expressed its sincere appreciation to AIDOT and TRIAR and formally requested continued long-term collaboration to support Bolivia's national efforts to eliminate cervical cancer.

The success demonstrated in Bolivia is now expanding across Latin America.

AIDOT has signed a partnership agreement in Mexico, where clinical validation and regulatory approval processes are currently underway. Through a project supported by Korea's National Information Society Agency (NIA), the company has successfully completed pilot demonstrations at five major hospitals in Honduras, including Hospital Santa Bárbara.

Regulatory approval processes are also progressing in El Salvador and Costa Rica. In addition, Cerviray AI, recently designated as an Innovative Medical Device by Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, will be exported to the National Cancer Center of Chile, with 20 systems being supplied through Korea's Innovative Product Export Pilot Procurement Program this month.

As the World Health Organization (WHO) pursues its goal of screening 70% of women of reproductive age by 2030, Cerviray AI has emerged as an attractive solution for Latin American countries facing significant public healthcare budget constraints, reducing screening costs by approximately 30% compared with conventional diagnostic methods.
